Stitches or Not?

Does that injury need stitches or not?

A new study shows that simply washing and bandaging a cut promotes healing just as quickly and completely as stitches -- and this method requires less time in the emergency room and costs less.

You should get stitches when:

  • A cut is longer than 1 inch

  • You cannot stop the bleeding

  • There is numbness or it hurts to move the injured area, which indicates possible nerve or tendon damage.
